post Greeley Mayor in hot water over mini-bike incident

June 25th, 2008

Filed under: Ed Clark, Greeley City Council — Bob @ 8:09 am

Greeley Mayor, Ed Clark, is facing a restraining order after a citizen’s arrest gone wrong.

The boy, 15, told police that Clark stopped him as he was riding his motorbike in the Eagle Ridge subdivision park at about 9:30 p.m. near 71st Avenue and 22nd Street and told him to get off the bike, according to the boy’s father, Tim Stitt.

When the boy refused, Stitt said Clark, an ex-police officer, picked up his son and threw him to the ground, holding the boy on the ground with his hands behind his back before police arrived.

When police arrived, they ticketed the boy for driving without a license, according to police.

Stitt took his son to Weld County Court on Tuesday morning to get a restraining order. Stitt said Clark and his wife, Erin, have been harassing his son for weeks. Stitt said Ed Clark confronted his son on a neighborhood basketball court two weeks ago after his son levied an expletive at Erin Clark. Stitt said Ed Clark told the boy that “bad things are going to happen” if he didn’t stop disrespecting his wife.

Joe Barnes, a nearby neighbor, said his son saw Clark “attack” the boy Monday, throw him to the ground and hold him down. He said kids in the neighborhood were just acting like kids and that none of them has ever gotten into any serious trouble.

Feel free to leave comments and give your thoughts about the Mayor’s behavior.

post City Council stops televising Work Sessions

Filed under: Greeley City Council — Bob @ 11:10 am

Greeley City Council has decided to stop televising it’s work sessions

In another move to save money, the council will not televise its work sessions any longer on Greeley’s Channel 8.

Doesn’t really matter to me since I have satellite TV, not cable.

post Concert canceled after pressure from Mayor and District Attorney

January 28th, 2008

Filed under: Law Enforcement, Greeley City Council — Bob @ 11:47 am

A scheduled rap concert for February 9, 2008 has been canceled after Mayor Ed Clark and Weld County District Attorney Ken Buck voiced their disapproval.

Both Buck and Clark were concerned that this concert would increase gang activity in Greeley.

“This is a matter of public safety,” Clark said. “(Mr. Capone-E) is a South Side gang member out of L.A. He has a criminal record…he was going to bring South Side gang members with him.”

post Greeley might get a Cheese Factory

January 9th, 2008

Filed under: Economics, Greeley City Council — Bob @ 3:09 pm

One of the world’s largest cheese producers moved closer Tuesday night to calling Greeley home to its latest factory, though company officials insist they are still considering other sites.

Why does Greeley want a Cheese Factory?

The factory is projected to bring 400 jobs to Greeley. What type of jobs will these be?
Are these the same types of jobs provided by JBS?
Will this contribute to our immigration problem?
Will this put Greeley further behind Loveland and Fort Collins in terms of average wages, crime, gangs, etc…?
Is this the kind of industry we need in Greeley?

post City Council bans Chew Samples

December 12th, 2007

Filed under: Pam Shaddock, Greeley City Council — Bob @ 10:36 am

Last week the Greeley City Council decided to enact a ban on free samples of chewing tobacco at the Greeley Stampede. The ban actually covers distribution of all free samples of tobacco products, but will have the largest impact on Greeley’s only major event of the year.

This action has brought a scathing response from Greeley Tribune columnist Mike Peters in which he accuses the Council of being political nannies.

The most unfortunate result of this ban is the impact it may have on the Stampede. In a city with minimal cultural events already, this action may cause a $200,000 sponsorhip loss to the Stampede.

The vote was 4-3, Mayor Ed Clark and council members Don Feldhaus and Maria Secrest voted against the ban.
Charles Archibeque, Ed Phillipsen, Carrol Martin and, everyone’s favorite, Pam Shaddock voted for the ban.

post Shaddock talks too much?

July 31st, 2007

Filed under: Weld County, Greeley City Council — Bob @ 7:06 pm

Greeley City Council Member is in hot water with her fellow members of the Weld Technical Advisory Committee for talking too much.

After a few meetings, it became apparent to some committee members that Shaddock was speaking with the media about many topics, something the group had tried to stop after appointing Stan Everitt the de facto chair and spokesman of the group. Shaddock also submitted a short opinion article to the Tribune about the committee’s work, which was published July 15.

While Shaddock and I are not on the same page politically, I have to give her some respect for her stance on this. Her opinion article published July 15th does little more than encourage public involvment. Does the Technical Advisory Committee not want the public to know about their scheduled forums? What can they possibly be discussing that is not fit for public consumption?
